What's He Doing Now?
Wayne Wallace: 1955 GCHS Graduate
September 19, 2008
From Oshkosh, Nebraska to Oshkosh, Wisconsin, Wayne Wallace has come a long way! Wayne graduated from Garden County High School in 1955. Memories of football Coach Harold Haberman and beating Grant 2-0 to claim the 1954 football conference championship his senior year are topmost in Wayne's recollections of life at good old GCHS.
Football played an important part in Wayne's college years as well. Graduating from Hastings College in 1959 with a major in mathematics, Wayne was a four-year football letterman. Wayne began his teaching career at Burwell, Nebraska in 1959, and went on to earn a Master's Degree in Mathematics at the University of South Dakota in 1963. He continued his post-graduate education with a Ph. D. in Computer Science from the University of Wisconsin in 1975, and was on the faculty at the University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh from 1963-1997.
Retired now, Wayne and his wife Jeannette spend almost half the year traveling in their motor home. Three children and five grandchildren add joy to their retirement days. Wayne enjoyed receiving the September 2008 Eagle Outreach newsletter and encourages old friends to keep him up to date about Garden County High School events. His e-mail address can be found on the GCHS 1950's Alumni Page.
