Building Early Business Success

GCS Summer Day Camp

June 17, 2008

Dear Parents of Garden County 7th, 8th and 9th Graders,

Garden County Schools, University of Nebraska Extension Service and Hometown Competitiveness (HTC) have joined forces to provide a free, summer day camp on July 16-17 for all Garden County students in grades 7, 8 and 9.  This event will expose students to the skills and opportunities for young people to start and operate their own businesses.  The camp will be held at Garden County High School, with lunch and snacks provided.  Students will investigate examples of successful youth endeavors, hear from guest speakers including young business owners, discuss entrepreneurship, interview existing business owners in the county and use technology to complete a business simulation.  Staff from the school system and from the Extension Service will provide instruction.  This project is funded in part by a grant from the Nebraska Department of Economic Development administered by the Nebraska Rural Development Commission.

Students have very busy summer schedules, and it is hoped that they will take advantage of this opportunity.  Although registration is appreciated it is not required.  To register please call the Volunteers of American at 308-778-5548 or contact Lynne Klemke at 308-778-6170.  Please feel free to call either number if you have questions or concerns.  Additional details are found below.
