Accelerated Reader Results

GCES Reading Success

May 22, 2008

Garden County Elementary held a year-long reading contest.  Students were asked to read books and then take Accelerated Reader quizzes over the books.  The A/R system allows teachers to monitor their students’ reading and vocabulary progress.

Throughout this school year, students received prizes from Mrs. Lake in the library each time they passed a quiz over their books.  The prizes were small but the incentive to read for fun was the best prize!

The students who passed the most A/R tests this year were Dakota H. in first grade, Rudy S. in second grade, Austin B. and Nina H. in third grade, Theresa B. in fourth grade and Kendra J. in fifth grade.  Kendra also received recognition for passing the most A/R tests for the whole school.

Next year’s Accelerated Reader program will include grades 1 through12 with lots of great incentives planned!  Students are encouraged to read over the summer so they can earn points when they return to school in August.
