Educational Insights: May 19, 2008

This week’s article will be the final for the 2007-08 school year. A school district is only as progressive and healthy as the community in which it resides. Garden County Schools’ students are the recipients of many positive contributions from all its stakeholders. There are so many ways that everyone helps our students to succeed and we are deeply humbled by them all!
Firstly, our parents and grandparents are to be recognized. It is you who get them to school every day on time and make sure they are ready to learn. Your support, interest, and engagement are invaluable to their learning environment. For all the science fair projects, homework completion, cakes, cookies, soup, extracurricular attendance, and permission slips signed…we thank you! Soon you will be receiving a Phone Messenger survey to plan for next year’s parent involvement group and our anti-bullying program. Please take the time to give us your insight and opinions.
A special thanks to all the teachers, cooks, bus drivers, Paras, secretaries, custodial staff, and board members for your unfailing commitment to our kids. Your talents and skills are world class! It is your vision that paves the way for academic excellence in our school system.
Next, we would like to express our ongoing gratitude to the many community members who give so generously in countless ways:
- Donations for post prom parties and class activities
- Attendance at extracurricular events, art shows, science fairs, music programs, dinner theaters, and plays
- Financial support via your tax dollars and contributions
- Participation in volunteering and mentoring opportunities
- Purchasing from the various fund raisers and sales’ events
- Selling and buying tickets at athletic events
- Assisting with clocks, stats, chains, announcing, judging lines, etc.
- Support for athletes who represent our district at state competitions
- Sponsorship for local radio broadcasting of events and in the local papers
- Foundation support for educational endeavors
- Local scholarships to help our students further their post-secondary goals
Lastly, thank you to all our loyal alumni who faithfully read the Garden County News and visit our school’s website in the effort to stay current on local school events and initiatives. Your interest in our rural school district remains a beacon of pride for us all. (Have you notified Julie Jorgensen of your current email address?)
The ending of a school year provides a rare opportunity to reflect and take the summer to renew our goals for ‘next year’. Indeed, all involved in Garden County Schools can be pleased with a productive year of learning and growth!
