Calling all parents!! Next Monday, April 14th, Garden County Schools’ teachers will be available to visit with you about your child’s academic progress so far this school year. In recognizing that parental involvement and support are essential for student success, we encourage all parents to attend! Students are welcome to accompany their parents.
The parents of K-5 students are invited to come to the elementary site, in Oshkosh, from 9:30 AM to 5:00 PM. Kindergarten parents will have scheduled appointments to visit with Mrs. Wendland in the kindergarten room. All grades 1-5 teachers will be available in the gym during that time, with no specific times scheduled.
Junior and senior high school parents are invited to the high school gym from 11 AM to 6 PM. We will be serving hot dogs and hamburgers during conferences for all K-12 parents who attend at either site.
Midquarter updates and curriculum information will be available for parents to review during these conferences. There will be a survey for parents to respond to the topic of bullying in our schools. We need your feedback for the purpose of program planning and to work collaboratively toward continuous improvement. A sign up sheet will be available at both sites for the formation of a parent involvement group to join our Purple Pride Booster Club.
Please do not miss this invaluable opportunity to learn more about your child’s learning status and our curriculum offerings. Our Board of Education, administration, and staff value your input and look forward to seeing you next Monday, April 14th! If you are unable to attend on this date, please take the time to call your child’s teacher or notify the school and reschedule for an alternative time.
In last week’s column, the subject of student assessment was discussed. Achievement testing began this week in grades 2-11. If you are interested in learning more about our NWEA MAP assessments, the website address is: http://www.nwea.org/assessments/. These assessments are administered on the computer in small group settings. The students’ answers determine the level of difficulty of the questions. Student growth is compared to their fall scores, as well as to other students in their grade and on a national level. These scores will be available at the end of the year and included with year end reports.
Increased student success and learning is our shared goal. Parent/Teacher conferences are an excellent opportunity to communicate about this essential topic!
