With the culmination of our winter sports’ programs and daylight savings time just around the corner, it is almost frightening to admit this academic year is on the down hill slide! A sense of academic urgency is felt by teachers that realize their time to teach will be over sooner than they might be ready for. Will all their students have learned everything they intended to teach? A barrage of spring activities will cause schedules to be disrupted more than we would like. End-of-the-year assessments and testing will consume valuable teaching opportunities. Consequently, there is no learning time to waste!
This week’s article is a simple reminder to all parents and caretakers in our community on how to help your child be successful in school. Please help us maximize your child’s academic growth for the remainder of this school year by:
Insisting your child attend school regularly (unless they are ill).
-
Planning family outings or doctor appointments during scheduled school breaks, whenever possible. -
Talking daily with your child about what they are learning in school. -
Checking the school’s website (http://www.gardencountyschools.org/) for timely information, schedule changes, and updates. -
Logging-in to your child’s Power School account to keep up on their grades and classroom progress. -
Contacting your child’s teacher if you have concerns or questions.
Education requires a two-way commitment between home and school. Neither party can effectively function without the other’s support. Our second parent/teacher conferences are not scheduled until mid April. Please know that you are welcome to visit school or set up a time to conference with your child’s teachers at any time! Don’t wait to find out what you need to know now. We are here to better serve your child’s needs, just pick up the phone and call if you have any questions about their education. Highly effective schools have actively engaged parents that feel welcomed and involved. Open communication is essential to promote learning in our community. Our school system can only be as good as the parents within it, a positive partnership is needed for our kids to excel!
