After a few hours at the museum we headed to Ft. Robinson located a few miles from Crawford. Along the way Mr. Assmann got the chance to share a few colorful stories of prominent landmarks including Crow Butte and Lover's Leap. Once at the fort students enjoyed a good sack lunch under the autumn canopy of cottonwood leaves. With a full belly we did a brief tour of the fort, visiting significant locations, and learning about the history of the fort in general. With some time to spare, kids got the chance to catch a snake, splash in the creek, climb an old bridge, and just have a good time for a few minutes.
All in all the trip was a fantastic day, with great weather and a great opportunity to learn more about western history, and explore western Nebraska as well.
