LOCAL BEEF TO BE SERVED TO STUDENTS IN GARDEN COUNTY!

One way we believe we can demonstrate our pride is by having locally raised beef donated to be processed at KDK Meats (located in Bridgeport, NE). Many might say that area cattle producers already give enough to the school district through property tax. While this is very true, we have had area producers say they might be interested in donating a cow/fat steer if that meant locally raised beef would be served at Garden County Schools.

The program works this way: if a cow/fat steer were donated to be processed, the donor would have their name posted on our school website, in the local newspaper, and on the school FaceBook pages as a local “Beef Provider” and also be added to a sign in the cafeterias.

We realize timing can be very important in donating an animal, so  would be very open to working with the producers and their production schedules. We project we would need approximately 3-4 cows/fat steers a year to provide the necessary beef needed for our lunch program. The district would pay the processing and pursue possible grant funding to assist in expenses.

However, if you are thinking, “I don’t raise cattle, but would love to donate for the processing of an animal”, just let us know and we can make that happen! Any size of donation for processing would be appreciated. Also some have mentioned buying one at the fair and donating it.

If you have interest in being part of this program please contact Superintendent Paula Sissel (308-772-3242) for more information.
