Parent/Teacher conferences 10.11.2011

Next Monday, October 17th, there will be no students in session due to Parent/Teacher conferences! All parents are invited and encouraged to meet with their child’s teacher(s).

GCE parent conferences will be scheduled and meet at the elementary site. Mrs. Wendland’s class will be in her room and all others will be in the gym. GCJH/GCHS parents are invited to the gym from 11 AM-6 PM to meet with teachers to learn more about PowerSchool , SchoolMessenger, the school’s webpage, and new Facebook Fan Page. All parents will receive assessment information and grade reports. The home/school connection is instrumental in increasing children’s educational success! Please plan to attend this important event.

Another area which increases student well-being is community involvement. Recently, Union Pacific Operation Lifesaver crew members, city officials, and school staff joined hands to help increase safety in Oshkosh!

On Wednesday (Oct. 5th), the UP crew came to the 2nd Street railroad crossing to meet with elementary students and teachers. Their purpose was to increase awareness about railroad crossing safety and provide training for our students. They brought two new signs that the city installed on the sidewalk by the recently painted red lines on the sidewalk. These are good visual reminders for students and adults to remember to ‘stay back’ when the red lights are flashing at the crossing.

Keeping our students safe is critical and we appreciate everyone’s efforts in accomplishing this goal. It truly takes a village in raising a child, so if you see unsafe practices at the crossing or have information to increase safety, please notify the school. We are committed to working together for their benefit. It is everyone’s responsibility to model and practice good railroad crossing safety. Thank you for setting a good example for our youth and holding them accountable.
