The Garden Country FFA is hosting a food drive for the Western Nebraska VOA Food Pantry. The food pantry is in dire need of restocking.

Rose Brassfield from the VOA stated, "In the 2015/2016 fiscal year the Volunteers of America Western Nebraska food pantry served 535 unduplicated individuals. Of these, 179 were youth from 0-18 years. Eighty-eight percent of those who use our food pantry are from Garden County. We appreciate everyone's help, it is difficult not having food to offer to those who are struggling."

There will be a grocery cart designated at the Oshkosh Superette to collect donations. There will also be a collection box at the gate entrances at both Varsity football games, October 13th, and 20th, for any of your donations. Students K-6th and 7th -12th are also competing in their own food drive competition.

Garden County is extremely fortunate to have a group of responsible and reliable bus drivers: Michelle Barringer, Cindy Bolton, Crystal Thelander, Maynard McCarthy, Tom Robinson, Smokey Triplett, and Missy Quinn! This job is often rather noisy, is unpredictable, can be messy, and sometimes challenging! However, these folks never complain, are always conscientious, and care about our kids.   more

23 High School students were able to participate in an acting workshop. They were able to participate with professional actors and worked on the following: “Violent Delights. Violent Ends.” (New for 2017) Participants will use Shakespeare's text and theatre-based activities to confront intense situations in Romeo and Juliet in order to better understand the root of violence in society and how to facilitate change, breaking the pattern of conflict in their own lives. The students that I interviewed after the workshop explained that they did learn quite a bit and felt that they grew as actors for the upcoming one act play and for speech next season.   more
