American History Class Field Trip
Posted on 10/25/2017
Recently the Garden County American History class went on a field trip to explore a few noteworthy locations related to American history. Northwest Nebraska is home to both the Museum of the Fur Trade, a world renowned museum dedicated to the fur trade industry, and Ft. Robinson, an influential army post established in the late 1800's. The day started with a few hours exploring the museum and its exhibits. Students took the opportunity to browse all the historical items of the fur trade which included guns, knives, traps, clothing, etc. The museum also hold a good variety of pre-Columbian artifacts that caught their attention. In addition to the actual museum, students got the chance to step inside a reproduction teepee and a traders dugout. This dugout was the "Wal-Mart" of the day, and it helped the students to understand how difficult life must have been for the early pioneers and settlers.  more
